A new composition (I) contains: (A) At least one of a wide range of specific active agents (e.g. peptidomimetics, sparingly soluble antibiotics, heparin, nucleoside analogs and vaccines); and (B) At least one hydrogel copolymer, derived from ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid(s) (EUCA) and ester(s) of EUCA's with polyalkylene glycol. A new composition (I) contains: (A) At least one active agent (optionally in salt form) selected from peptidomimetics, antibiotics having low solubility or bioavailability, substrates for the P-glycoprotein system, substrates for cytochrome P-450, drugs requiring sufficiently constant bioavailability (due to a steep dose-action curve and/or a narrow therapeutic range) or sufficiently rapid bioavailability (due to the indications), heparin (or low molecular heparins), nucleotide constructs, nucleoside analogs, vaccines and pro-drugs (i.e. trigger drugs, ligand drugs or ligand-linker drugs); and (B) At least one hydrogel copolymer, derived from ethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid(s) (EUCA) and ester(s) of EUCA's with polyalkylene
