The invention concerns a device and a method for motion-compensated filtering and a corresponding coding system. The device comprises in particular a module estimating motions by block matching (2), means for determining (3) a recursivity noise level ( sigma >rec<), a module for calculating (4) a prediction error ( epsilon ), a module for computing (5) a recursivity coefficient ( alpha ) on the basis of the recursivity noise level and the prediction error, means for calculating (6) a motion-compensated image and filtering means (7, 8) producing a weight with the recursivity coefficient, of the current input image and a previously stored filtered and motion-compensated image. The device further comprises means for determining (3) an immobility noise level ( sigma >imm<), and an assembly for processing (11, 12) zones constituting the partitions of the blocks used for motion estimation, resetting the motion vectors (d) associated with the zones wherein the frame differences are less than a threshold function of the immobility noise level.
