PURPOSE: A liquid crystal display and a method for driving the same are provided to improve the image quality by preventing the signal coupling between data liens and to eliminate the cross talk. CONSTITUTION: A liquid crystal display includes a plurality of gate lines(G1,G2,...Gn) and data lines(D1,D2,...Dn) crossly aligned on a first substrate, a gate driving part(53) for driving the gate lines, a source driving part(55) for serving a primary pre-charge of the data lines and the supply of image signals, and a pre-charge circuit part(57) for secondarily pre-charging the primarily pre-charged data lines. The pre-charge of the data lines is carried out by a first step of shorting the data lines to be primarily pre-charged and a second step of alternately applying the primarily pre-charged data lines with a pre-charge voltage lower than the primary pre-charge voltage and a pre-charge voltage higher than the primary pre-charge voltage whenever horizontal scanning lines are activated.
