PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such problems of a conventional air cleaner that although the prevention of microorganism growth by use of minus ions and ozone is generally known and a minus ion generator included in the air cleaner is usually mounted near the exit of an exhausting portion so as to prevent decay of minus ions within the cleaner, the minus ions and ozone start to decay after exhaust of air and mostly dissipate when taken into the cleaner again, so that they will not circulate throughout an air passage within the cleaner including a filter nor have the effect of preventing the growth of microorganisms, and a technique of causing circulation of air containing ozone by increasing the concentrations of minus ions and ozone so as to prevent the growth of microorganisms throughout a room may affect human bodies. SOLUTION: The ratio of minus ion generation to ozone generation is controlled and the air blowing direction of a fan is changed whether it is used for sterilization purposes or for air cleaning purposes using the minus ions and ozone, so as to sterilize the interior of the cleaner or clean indoor air. The growth of microorganisms inside the air cleaner and throughout an air passage within the cleaner including a filter is prevented to assure and enhance sanitariness.
