PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composition used for paper coating, having good high speed flowability and giving coated paper having excellent wet picking strength, blister resistance, and gloss. SOLUTION: This reactive emulsifier for paper coating latexes, comprising a compound represented by the general formula (I) R1 is a 8 to 12C alkyl; R2 is H or prophenyl; A is a 2 to 4C alkylene or a substituted alkylene; (n) is an integer of 1 to 200; X is H or one of substituents (a) to (e) [M is an alkali metal, NH4 or an alkanolamine residue; R3 is a residue except X in the formula (I)]}. The composition for paper coating, obtained by emulsion-polymerizing a monomer mixture comprising the following monomers (a), (b), and (c). (a) 20 to 70 wt.% of an aliphatic conjugated dienic monomer, (b) 0.5 to 10 wt.% of an ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, and (c) 20 to 79.5 wt.% of a copolymerizable monomer.
