An internal combustion engine comprising at least one cylinder slidingly receiving a piston being connected via a connecting rod with a crankshaft. Said cylinder being covered by a cylinder head having at least one intake passage and at least one exhaust passage with their fore-ends opening into a combustion chamber, wherein the other end of the intake passage being connected to an intake pipe extending from its rear end portion once sideways and then transverse to the crankshaft axis towards the crankshaft so as to have a curved portion and a straight portion in succession with the fore-end of the intake pipe being connected to a surge tank.
