PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a centering device for an elevator guide rail easily responding to difference in the front/rear directional distance from a hoistway wall to the guide rail for the elevator. SOLUTION: A bracket 27 is provided in a member 2 constituting the internal circumference of the hoistway and a front/rear centering device 28 having an advancing/retreating mechanism 44 to the member 2 is temporarily installed to the bracket 27. A left/right centering device 35 having a displacement mechanism 45 moving the guide rail 3 in the left/right direction along the internal circumferential face of the hoistway is temporarily installed in the rear face of the guide rail 3 erected in the hoistway engaged with the advancing/retreating mechanism 44 of the front/rear centering device 28. A fastening device 40 temporarily fastening the left/right centering device 35 with the guide rail 3 is provided. This constitution can properly elongate the length of a rod member forming the advancing/retreating mechanism 44 of the front/rear centering device 28 so as to reduce the types of the centering apparatuses responding to the difference in the front/rear advancing/retreating distance.
