PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and method for transferring a vehicle body while reducing impacts on the vehicle body being transferred and impacts on the apparatus itself. SOLUTION: The apparatus for transferring a vehicle body transfers the vehicle body F from a first conveyor (overhead conveyor) OC to a second conveyor (friction conveyor) FC, and includes a tire support means (drop lifter) 1 for supporting tires T and so forth attached to the vehicle body F conveyed by the first conveyor OC and for receiving the vehicle body F from the first conveyor OC, and a vehicle body support means (vehicle body support device) 2 for supporting the vehicle body F with the tires supported by the tire support means 1 and for transferring the vehicle body F from the tire support means 1 onto the second conveyor FC.
