PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory leakage restoration method that restores a link memory from a memory leakage state while being in an operating state and to provide a buffer processing unit. SOLUTION: The memory leakage restoration method includes a detection process where a non-free address of a packet memory is detected from a memory storing free addresses and non-free addresses, a monitor process to check whether or not an address is added to a free list within a prescribed period, and an additional process where an address is added to the free list when the address is not added to the free list within the period.
