LASER SYSTEM FOR IMPROVED TRANSBARRIER THERAPEUTIC RADIATION DELIVERY

The present invention describes a system and method to improve radiation delivery to subsurface skin tissue (504) without damaging surface tissue encountered during therapeutic laser treatment. To achieve this result, a bio-chemical fluid is preoperatively administered to the tissue (504). The bio-compatible fluid is a light-scattering fluid for achieving a more uniform, enhanced heating over a treatment area. A second dispersion fluid can be added to the tissue to enhance even more improved light dispersion throughout the treatment site. Laser radiation is then administered by optical fibers (509) to the tissue through micropores created by a micro-needle patch device (502). The micro-needle patch device may deliver fluid and radiation simultaneously, or separate patches may be employed having micro-needles with through-passages for delivering the light or fluid.
