PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sliding door braking device which is easily available for both a rightward sliding door and a leftward sliding door, and to provide a sliding door braking system equipped with the sliding door braking device. SOLUTION: The sliding door braking device is comprised of a pinion engageable with a rack, a rotation center shaft for the pinion, and a braking section for applying a braking force to the pinion via the rotation center shaft. The pinion stores therein a one-way clutch, and by virtue of operation of the clutch, the pinion is rotated together with the rotation center shaft only in one direction, thereby receiving the braking force from the braking section. According to the braking device, the pinion can be manually attached to the rotation center shaft in a removable manner without using an instrument.
