A multiple-use battery pack system (20) includes a battery pack housing (21) enclosing a lead-acid battery (B) and a post portion (25) projecting from the housing (21) and adapted to be plugged into a cavity (16) in an associated cordless power hand tool (10). First terminals (17) on the post portion (25) connect the battery (B) to the tool circuitry when the post portion (25) is plugged into the tool (10). When used for powering other loads, the post portion (25) is plugged into a receptacle (31) in an adapter housing (30), in which position either the first terminals (17) or, alternatively, second terminals (27) on the battery pack housing (21) connect the battery to jumper cables (33) on the adapter housing (30). Latch mechanisms (28) on the battery pack housing (21) cooperate with keepers on the associated hand tool (10) for latching the battery pack (20) in place thereon. |
