PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite roll for hot rolling which is manufactured by centrifugal casting, has excellent resistance to accident and sheet passability and is suitable for the final stand of hot finish rolling. SOLUTION: The external layer has a composition containing 1.2 to 2.2% C, 6 to 12% Cr, 3 to 6% Mo, 3 to 8% V, 0.5 to 3% Nb, 1.0 to 8.0% Co and 0.3 to 1.5% Ni and simultaneously satisfying 0.27<=Mo(%)/Cr(%)<=0.8 and 0<=C-0.236 V-0.129 Nb<=0.40. The average thermal expansion coefficient of the outer layer at room temperature to 300 deg.C is preferably controlled to <=11.5×10-6/ deg.C.
