A process for producing wood material boards comprises preheating the material using high frequency or microwave energy, and then warming and pressing it to harden it. The core is preheated to at least 85 deg C during the compressing using microwaves. The radiation energy is focussed on the central area. The material contains strands which are 180-250 mm long, 1.0-2.0 mm thick and 15-45 mm wide. The length and width dimensions deviate from the mean by less than 20% and the thickness by less than 25%.
