A plug element (2) is inserted into a soft shell (1) which fits into the auditory canal. The plug element (2) is provided with a central bore (6) for ventilation and for the insertion of a cylindrically shaped filter (8). Filters (8) are available in different versions, to be differentiated by their color and prepared to let only a certain type and/or level of noise invade the inner ear. One type of filter (8), particularly suitable for being used by a musician or a disc-jockey, offers a specific linear noise absorption and can be attached to the device (2) with a click-on mechanism (10). A small handle (4) facilitates insertion and removal.
