Fiber-optic bragg sensor for measurement of pressure and density

A pressure transducer housing (9) is divided by a membrane (10) into a chamber (9b) containing gas under a reference pressure and a chamber (9a) linked to the medium (11) monitored. The membrane at its center is connected on either side to fibre Bragg gratings (3) clamped at their opposite ends by ferrules (6,7) and connected to optical fibres (2). Bellows (9d) isolate the membrane/grating links from the two chambers. Any change in gas pressure flexes the membrane and is converted by the Bragg gratings into an appropriate signal.
