An intra-vaginal, -rectal or -nasal drug delivery device comprises a body 18 (which may be of absorbent material), a layer of fluid-impermeable material 16 on at least part of said body and one or more pharmaceutical agents 14 disposed on the surface of said material remote from the body. The fluid-impermeable material may be provided as a circumferential ring, which may be embedded in the body, or a plurality of such rings. Alternatively, it may take the form of circular patches (Fig. 9), longitudinal strips (Fig. 12) or a lattice (Fig. 14). The body core may be tubular and the device may include a tether. The device exploits the highly vascularised nature of vaginal etc. mucosal tissue to deliver drugs to localised areas or underlying tisues.
