PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrolyte for electrolytic capacitor, which has high electric conductivity and high withstanding voltage, and has a superior thermal stability, and also provide an electrolytic capacitor using the electrolyte. SOLUTION: The electrolyte for electrolytic capacitor contains quaternary amidinium salt of a hydroxy substituted aromatic monocarboxylic acid, and this electrolyte is used in the electrolytic capacitor.
