PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery charging apparatus and a battery charging method which make a quick charge possible or which make the peakpower which is required to charge reduce inside an electronic device or an individual type of a battery charger. SOLUTION: In the battery charging apparatus 70 with the recommended charging voltage for a battery 10, a power source for the battery 10 is supplied for the purpose of the control of the applied voltage and charging current and is equipped with a power source 72 with a voltage detection circuit 78 and a control circuit 80 connected to the power source 72. The control circuit 80 supplies a current from the power source 72 to the battery 10 until the higher battery voltage than the recommended charging voltage is detected with the voltage detection circuit 78 and reduces an applied voltage to the battery 10 to the recommended voltage with a controlled rate after the above higher battery voltage is detected.
