PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical recording and reproducing device capable of control by a DSP having the same hardware constitution, regardless of the type of disk drive. SOLUTION: Immediately after supplying of power of resetting of the optical recording and reproducing device, a CPU 142 switches the set value of a RAM on the DSP 141 according to the kind of the software of the DSP 141, the kind of the optical recording and reproducing device, the characteristic of a head actuator, etc., based on device information sent to this device, to construct a control system in the DSP 141 so as to confor to each head actuator and each drive. Thus, even when the specification or the kind of the head actuator is varied and even for an optical recording and reproducing device having plural heads and drives, the DSP 141 having the same hardware constitution can be used. As a result, the DSP 141 of the respective drives can be controlled by the same CPU 142, regardless of the kinds of drive.
