A structural support assembly is disclosed comprising of a male member in engagement with a settable binding material in engagement with a wooden female member. The male member, in the form of a rung (20) for a ladder, comprises of inner (22) and outer (24) surfaces. The female member, in the form of a ladder stile (10), comprises of an elongated wooden body (12) with a trepanned annular socket (14). The socket (14) is defined by a groove in the form of a closed loop having opposing walls, namely the inner (16) and outer (18) walls. The groove is shaped to receive the projection of the male member such that the projection of the male member forms a clearance fit with the socket (14) of the female member. The binding material (48) contracts opposing walls of the socket (14) of the female member and the inner and outer walls of the projection of the male member. The binding material (48) has permeates and strengthens the wooden female member adjacent the socket (14).
