<p>The invention relates to a dual bone fixation, compression and distraction plate comprising the following: a fixation plate (10) having: (a) holes (13) in which cortical screws are inserted to fix the plate (10) to the first bone segment; (b) at least one groove (12) to enable displacement of the fixation cortical screws used in fixing the displacement plate (20) to the second bone segment; a displacement plate (20) having: (a) holes (23) in which cortical screws are inserted to fix the plate (20) to the second bone segment; (b) a groove (22) making it possible to position the cortical screws for fixing the fixation plate (10) on the first bone segment, and a mechanism for generating and transmitting motion (18) enabling the displacement plate (20) to move longitudinally relative to the fixation plate (10). The bone segments are compressed or distracted depending on the direction of movement. The disclosed device and method make it possible to achieve stable, dynamic and permanent osteosynthesis, i.e. controlled interfragmentary compression can be performed depending on the force exerted on the fragments. It is important that said compression be applied during the entire duration of bone consolidation, thereby making it possible to effectively meet ideal requirements to attain adequate consolidation.</p> |
