PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fixing device where a good fixed image can be always obtained even when variations are made in each mode required in a process for forming a fixed image, especially a variation of the size of passed paper, and where energy saving is achieved by not consuming unnecessary electric power. SOLUTION: In the fixing device provided with a hollow cylindrical heating element constituted of a conductive member and a heating means containing an electric source feeding alternate currents and coils, the coils are separated into the coils heating the vicinity of the center in the horizontal direction of the heating element and the coils heating both end parts, and at least one of these coils is installed outside the heating element.
