PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for dismantling a refrigerator at a low cost without enlarging the facility or the installation space in which foaming gas in a thermal insulation material can be collected efficiently. SOLUTION: The method for dismantling a refrigerator comprises a step for collecting refrigerant gas and removing a compressor, a step for cutting a thermal insulation housing including a thermal insulation material into a plurality of pieces thus dismantling the thermal insulation housing, and a step for collecting gas contained in the thermal insulation material by compressing the cut pieces through opposite compression rollers. At the time of cutting the thermal insulation housing, gas contained in the thermal insulation material is scarcely diffused and since the gas is collected by leaking it at the time of compression, the gas can be collected with high concentration. Furthermore, independent bubbles in the thermal insulation material are collapsed easily using the compression rollers and the gas can be collected thoroughly and surely.
