The invention relates to a process for preparing high purity zinc sulphide meant for phosphor synthesis by precipitation with fixing salt. The precipitation takes place in the presence of the sodium acetate fed in a single dosis at 15...30 min after the initiation of the precipitation. The precipitation process continues for other 90...105 min. The resulting precipitate is screened out in wet condition, filtered, dried and calcined at 700...900 degree C in nitrogen stream.
