PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize an edition function that mixes a signal that is previously recorded on a magnetic tape with another signal and records the signals on the original place without providing a precedent reproducing head. SOLUTION: A reproducing operation fast and also intermittently reproduces data from the magnetic tape, stores the data in a memory 101 for reproduction and continuously reads the data from the memory 101 for reproduction at a normal speed. A recording operation continuously stores recording data in a memory 100 for recording, fast and also intermittently reads the stored data and records the data on the magnetic tape. An intermittent reproducing operation and an intermittent recording operation are alternately repeated, and the magnetic tape is also subjected to fast rewinding running between the reproducing operation and the recording operation. Thus, the signals obtained by mixing the signal reproduced from the magnetic tape with the other signal with a mixing circuit 16 can be recorded again on the original place on the magnetic tape.
