PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile capable of communication at a high efficiency in the manner of the full duplex. SOLUTION: The facsimile transmits procedure signals in the full duplex and transmits picture signals in the semi-duplex. For sending an initial identification signal the receiver side continuously sends the initial identification signal until receiving a receiving instruction signal. Thus, if the initial identification signal sent out from the receiver becomes error the initial identification signal is sent out not after lapse of 3 or 4.5 sec or more as in the prior art but immediately to reduce the procedure time and ensure the full duplex.
