PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon fiber bundles of high performance that has good processability to prepregs and gives the composite material developing excellent strength properties, when it is combined with a resin. SOLUTION: The objective carbon fiber bundles having organic fine particles on their carbon fiber surfaces are produced by coating the fiber surfaces of the bundles with a surface-treating agent including organic fine particles wherein the surface area ratio of the single fibers constituting the fiber bundles is <=1.02.
