PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a modified polypropylene resin which has a high graft content. has a low content of an ungrafted ethylencally unsaturated monomer, is excellent in compatibility with other materials, has a high mol.wt., and can be produced at a low cost. SOLUTION: This modified polypropylene resin is prepared by melt kneading (A) 100 pts. wt. ultrahigh-mol.-wt. crystalline PP resin having a melting point of 150-170 deg.C and an intrinsic viscosity of 5-15 dl/g with a mixture comprising (B) 0.3-10 pts.wt. ethylenically unsaturated monomer and (C) 0.001-10 pts.wt. organic peroxide, has a melting point of 130-170 deg.C, and satisfies the relations represented by (i) 0.003<=MG <=0.05, (ii) 0.4<=[η]MPP<=3, and (iii) (MG)⊗([η]MPP)>=0.0050 [wherein MG (mol/100 g of modified PP resin) is the amount of grafted ingredient (B); and[η]MPP] is the intrinsic viscosity].
