PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a defective container wherein an inert gas is removed from being manufactured when the operation of a device which has been interrupted for a time is resumed. SOLUTION: This lid material sealing device for the container is equipped with a conveyor 11, guides 12 and 13, a seal head 14, and an inert gas nozzle 16. In this case, The conveyor 11 carries containers C facing forward through a seal station S. The guides 12 and 13 guide a band-shape lid material L to the seal station S. The seal head 14 seals the lid material L onto the mouth edge section of the container at the seal station S. The inert gas nozzle 16 blows an inert gas into the container behind the seal station S. The inert gas nozzle 16 is movable in the longitudinal direction. The inert gas nozzle 16 at the advancing limit can enter the above space of the container C which is located behind the already sealed container C at the final end.
