The invention relates to a vacuum generator (1) comprising a main suction nozzle unit (2) with an upstream shut-off valve (27), and a supplementary suction nozzle unit (3) that is mounted in parallel to the main suction nozzle unit (2). While the supply with pressure medium of the main suction nozzle unit (2) is controlled depending on the generated negative pressure by controlling the shut-off valve (27), the supplementary suction nozzle unit (3) remains permanently operative, thereby ensuring a complete build-up of a vacuum in connection with a complete shut-off of the main suction nozzle unit (2) and a resulting air-saving effect.
