A method for controlling circulation of a content through a communication network so as to prevent circulation of unauthorized copies of a content in an electronic circulation system comprising the steps of adding device identification information for identifying the device for recording a content and content identification information including identification symbols for identifying the content to the content and transmitting the content to a communication network, receiving at least part of the content including the device identification information and identification symbols through the network, extracting the device identification information and identification symbols from the received at least part of the content, checking if the content is an unauthorized copy on the basis of the device identification information and the identification symbols, and stopping, if it is judged to be an unauthorized copy, the reception and reproduction of the content.
