Preparation of fine chemicals (I) by culturing organisms in which the shikimate pathway (SP) has been altered relative to the wild type. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) nucleic acid construct (A1) containing a sequence that encodes (i) a plastid transit peptide (PTP); and (ii) a 265 amino acid (aa) sequence (4), reproduced, or its derivatives (formed by substitution, insertion or deletion of aa) or sequences with at least 30% homology at the aa level and having chorismate mutase (CM) activity; (b) nucleic acid construct (A2) containing a sequence that encodes CM and/or prephenate dehydrogenase (PH), linked to at least one regulatory sequence for transcription or translation in plants; (c) genetically modified organisms (B) in which metabolite flow in SP, and thus content of (I), is altered relative to the wild type; and (d) method for preparing (B).
