PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of producing a polyester economically feasible and least affecting the environment, the molded article of which has excellent transparency, is hard to generate nasty taste or offensive smell, and is hard to stain the mold at the molding. SOLUTION: This method comprises the steps of esterifying an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or its functional derivative with a glycol or its functional derivative to obtain an oligomer, then melt-polycondensing the oligomer or melt-polycondensing the oligomer followed by crystallization or solid polymerization treatment to obtain a polyester, and bringing the polyester into contact with water, wherein esterifying reaction and melt-polycondensation reaction are performed using three successive reactors consisting of an esterifying reactor, an initial polycondensation reactor and a final polycondensation reactor.
