PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve a shorter truing time and longer service life of a grinding tool by setting a suitable amount of dressing without waste at the truing of the grinding tool. SOLUTION: A present shape of the grinding tool as well as the shape of the grinding tool to be supplied for truing are memorized. (step S1) Both of the present shape and the truing shape are converted to graphic display data, and the both graphic display data are superimposed to obtain amount of dressing for truing. (steps S3 and S4) A plurality of drive shafts for relatively moving the grinding tool and a dresser freely attachable and detachable based upon the amount of dressing determined by a difference between the superimposed graphic display data are controlled to carry out the truing. (steps S10 and S11) Since the amount of dressing may be as small as possible, a suitable amount of dressing without waste may be set at the truing of the grinding tool. A shorter truing time and longer life of a grinding tool may be achieved.
