PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lithium secondary battery having an excellent charge- discharge cycle life characteristic. SOLUTION: The binder for this lithium secondary battery is prepared by dissolving and/or dispersing a carboxyl group containing resin of an acid value of 200-700 KOHmg/g having a unit expressed by the general formula (1), where R1 is hydrogen or a methyl group and a unit expressed by the formula (2), where R1 is hydrogen or a methyl group and R2 is a monoepoxy compound residue in a nonaqueous solvent.
