PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an auxiliary storage device for avoiding a 'fixed point floating state' and improving reliability without damaging a life even if an instruction for accessing data existing on a specified address (physical cylinder) is continuously issued for long time. SOLUTION: A medium face 3 is divided into the blocks 6, 7, 8 and 9 of width corresponding to the size of a magnetic head 1. The blocks 8 and 9 including addresses 4 and 5 having high access frequency are registered in a memory as 'the blocks of high access frequency'. When the blocks 8 and 9 of high access frequency are newly accessed, exchange to an exchange destination address 10 is compulsorily performed. Thus, the fixed point floating state becoming the cause of the deterioration of the medium face can be avoided and the reliability of the auxiliary storage device can be improved.
