PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prolong the life of an image carrier by preventing abrasion of the image carrier, caused by the abutment of a cleaning member on the image carrier. SOLUTION: Normally, a cleaning blade 22, or a clearing member, is separated from a photoreceptor drum 2. When a potential sensor or the like detects that the surface of the photoreceptor drum 2 exceeds a certain threshold, a solenoid 48 is controlled to bring the cleaning blade 22 into contact with the photoreceptor drum 2. |
