PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coupler excellent in solubility in a high boiling point solvent and forming a dye excellent in shelf stability, and to provide a silver halide color photographic sensitive material formed in a thinner layer, ensuring higher suitability to rapid processing and higher definition than before and excellent in shelf stability of a color image, particularly light fastness. SOLUTION: The coupler is represented by formula (I) (where R is an alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl or a heterocyclic group; L is -CO- or -SO2-; and X is H or a substituent which can be released by coupling with the oxidized body of a developing agent) and the silver halide color photographic sensitive material contains the coupler.
