PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the vibration generated at stopping the action of a shutter blade for a focal plane shutter. SOLUTION: A locking means 19 is arranged so that the side of the open edge P of the open shutter blade 5 may be shielded from light and a closed shutter blade 3 may be held at a position partly covering a shutter aperture 1a, and prior to the start of an exposure action, the closed shutter blade 3 is retreated from the aforesaid holding position where the shutter aperture 1a is partly covered by the blade 3.
