PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To sufficiently and accurately set an activating voltage level for a piezoelectric element. SOLUTION: A method and a device are provided for charging the piezoelectric element used as an actuator, for example, in a fuel supply system in an internal combustion engine. In the method and the device, the piezoelectric element is actuated by operating voltage, and the operating voltage is corrected relative to a temperature of the piezoelectric element. The temperature of the piezoelectric element is detected by using an energy balance model.
