PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine capable of reliably controlling the direction of a shield main body even in the case that the location of a segment in the forefront row is not fixed when advancing the shield main body via segments. SOLUTION: In the shield machine, the segment S in the forefront row of a lining 3 constructed in a tunnel is pressed by a cylinder device 2 for propulsion provided for the shield main body 1 to advance the shield main body 1. The shield machine is provided with a propelling force transmitting device 17 comprised of a tubular frame body 11 arranged inside the lining 3, a plurality of push rods 12 provided at predetermined intervals along the inner circumference of the frame body 11, a cylinder device 14 for movements to reciprocally move the push rods 12 along the axial directions of the tunnel, and a cylinder device 15 for rocking provided on the side of the frame body 11 to engage and remove hook parts 12a provided for the rear end parts of the push rods 12 with and from recessed parts 4 formed on the side of the lining 3 by rocking the push rods 12 about their axes.
