A transmission system (110) comprising program schedule information capturing means (101) for capturing program schedule information from an external program schedule information provider company (108) or from a broadcast wave (109); program schedule information encoding means (102) for encoding the captured program schedule information; and transmitting means (103) for transmitting the encoded program schedule information by broadcast wave or by communication. A receiver (112) comprising program schedule information receiving means (104) for receiving the program schedule information transmitted from the transmission system (110); program schedule information displaying means (107) for displaying the received program schedule information; program control information receiving means (105) for receiving program control information from a broadcast wave or the like; storing means (113) for storing the program control information and the program schedule information; and merging means (106) for updating the contents of the program schedule information from the contents of the program control information.
