OPTICAL ELEMENT FOR FLOW CYTOMETRY

An optical element for use in a flow cytometer is provided that comprises a base member having a portion defining a flow channel, and an aspheric concave reflective surface having an optical axis intersecting the flow channel. Some light scattered or emitted by cells or other particulate material in a sample stream passing through the flow channel is collected and reflected by the aspheric concave reflective surface to form an image at an image plane external to the optical element.
