The method of operating a voice controlled device involves executing a voice command in connection with a manual switch actuation. The voice command recognition is permanently activated between start and stopping of operation. On manual switch actuation, the voice command recognition is, within a predetermined time interval, converted into the command independent of whether the spoken command is made before or after the switch actuation. The time interval can preferably be freely set. Independent claims also cover a device controlled according to the method.
