Material is cavity molded on an impact machine in which an upper ram unit and punch and a lower ram unit and punch move towards each other with respective velocities such that their momentums (mass x velocity) are about equal. The total kinetic energy developed by each ram unit is transferred to the material in the mold cavity, causing the material to plasticise and flow, and fill the cavity.
