PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a facsimile terminal that can automatically select a one- side or double-side transmission mode properly for an original so as to properly execute image communication intended by a user. SOLUTION: A CPU 22 decides whether or not valid image information is included in both sides of an original image read by a read circuit 14, executes transmission of both sides of the image information read from both sides of the original when even one of the original includes the valid image information on both sides, and executes one-side transmission of the image information read from the surface of the original in other cases. Moreover, when a forced surface read mode is selected by an operation of an operation section 20, even when there is just one original that includes the valid image information on both sides, only the surface of the original is read and the read image information is transmitted in the one-side transmission mode.
