PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image read method and device that can read a transparent original with a wide gray scale range such as a negative film at a high- speed with high accuracy. SOLUTION: A CPU 8 functions as a controller to revise a storage time of a CCD 4 during reading of an image recorded on a transparent original 2 by each line with respect to a read direction, to classify an image signal obtained from each line by the storage time when reading the line and to arrange each of the line data to acquire a plurality of image data and to store the respective image data to storage devices 6, 7.
