PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coated arc welding rod for welding stainless steel excellent in welding operability in all positions, particularly containing a large quantity of alloy agent in a coating agent, good in the insulating properties of coating, strong in a protective cylinder and good in arc stability. SOLUTION: This arc welding rod is obtained by coating a stainless steel core wire with a coating agent containing, by weight, 5 to 30% CaCO3, 10 to 26% CaF2, 5 to 20% SiO2, 1 to 10% ZrO2 and an alloying agent of <=65%.
