The engine has a crankcase in which a crankshaft and camshaft are rotatably mounted and an oil pump (2), whereby the camshaft at least is driven by a toothed belt in a region of the engine that is dry of oil and that is closed off from the surroundings by a cover in a dust tight manner. The cover is sealed with respect to the engine by rubber profiles (7a, 7b).
